Supply List - Zadie Jumpsuit
“The Zadie Jumpsuit is a relaxed and easy to wear one piece that comes with the option of wide 3/4 length sleeves or sleeveless with a dropped shoulder. It wraps around the body and fastens with a tie with so there is no need for buttons or a zip - making it quick and easy to sew, and quick and easy to get on and off. The legs are cut wide and skim above the ankle. There are deep slant pockets on the front, with small pleats at the waist on the front and back. The neck edge is finished with a bias binding.”
Sewing level: advanced beginner
SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
Recommended fabric: If you identify more on the beginner side of advanced beginner, we recommend using a medium weight, 100% cotton or linen woven fabric. If you have a bit more sewing experience under your belt, you can choose fabric made from tencel, rayon, viscose, in addition to (or blended with) cotton and/or linen. Rayon/viscose/tencel fabrics are notoriously shifty and therefore take a bit more effort to sew with, but they are lovely to wear and would make an excellent Zadie Jumpsuit.
Treat this workshop as an opportunity to make a rough draft of the pattern, aka a wearable muslin. Choose a fabric you’d like to wear, but not a fabric you consider too precious. Save the expensive designer silk for the 2nd or 3rd iteration instead. :)
Fabric yardage:
Using a flexible tape measure, measure the widest circumference of your bust and hip, and your natural waist (where your side body creases when bending side to side). Compare to the body measurement chart below. Based on your largest measurement, select which size to sew and buy the corresponding yardage listed in the following fabric consumption chart. Please note: because the Zadie pattern runs large, you’re safe to go down one size. Also keep in mind
that the jumpsuit finishes with a cropped leg, so if you’d like to add length (at 5’8” both Kate and Liz added 4” to theirs) consider purchasing an extra 0.25m. If omitting the 3⁄4” sleeve, buy 0.3m less than suggested.
Additional supplies:
- Polyester thread to match your fabric
- Standard sewing kit: fabric scissors, straight pins, fabric marker, seam ripper.
